The Moisturizing Mistake You’ve Been Making

Posted by Zahra Spencer on Sep 21st 2018

We bet you try to drink eight glasses of water a day, don’t you? We’re sure you know precisely the value of keeping your body hydrated for a ton of different reasons. Keeping yourself hydrated has pretty much become conventional wisdom at this point— during the summertime you keep your trusty water bottle nearby and after one too many glasses of wine, you (as a mature and responsible adult) always drink a glass of water. Well with all this hydrating going on, we hope you aren’t missing one of the most important steps, that is, hydrating your skin!

We’ve all been fed the same beauty myth that moisturizing your skin will leave you greasy and oily but the truth is, it’s the complete opposite. Purposely withholding moisture from your skin for fear of producing more skin oils is exactly what produces more oils! The trick is to choose the right type of moisturizer for your skin and this will probably require some level of trial and error. But if you’re already on the moisturizing bandwagon, but for some reason either still suffer from excessively dry or oily skin, then maybe you’re making this one rookie mistake. Your moisturizer should always be applied after cleansing your skin (actually if you check the back of your moisturizer, it probably says as much). This is important because you don’t want to add a moisturizer to dirty skin but it’s actually equally as important to apply your moisturizer while your skin is still damp, so a few minutes after using your cleanser. This helps your skin lock in the moisture better and ensure that it hydrates your skin for longer. A lightweight moisturizer that has all the skin benefits of natural Hyaluronic Acid, Peptides and Vitamins is VersaPrime HylaSilk by PriyanaMD. This serum is both a moisturizer and skin primer in one. It can be used by itself or blended with other products and used as a glide to make them travel. For instance, I blend in my hands and then apply to my face with my expensive Growth Factor Cream so it spreads further to my neck and chest.

And we all know that hydrated skin is happy skin! Now we aren’t saying that if you wait a little while to moisturize your skin after you clean it’s a huge problem but to get the most bang for your buck, try moisturizing on damp skin (trust us!).
